Figures in the Space — steel sculpture by Jolanta Johnsson

Art by Drawing a Woman

My drawings and prints inspire me to create in space. Space encourages me to work on a larger scale and to engage new and sustainable materials.

Figures in the Space

The figures are flat, cut from thick sheet Corten steel. The simplified silhouettes are depicted in positions that suggest moments of reverie and tranquillity. The figure is constructed of metal mass and void.

Parts cut out of solid sheet metal embrace the empty spaces. Using these two opposites (empty-full), I tell a story about us humans. We are full of opposites.

Double Portraits

These sculptures are inspired by the Double Portraits series of prints. Faces and hands extend outward into space. Two metals — red-brown patinated steel and matte grey aluminium.
